WEEK 3 - GD MAP 10 x RESEARCH REVIEW

1. Before I die - Candy Chang

The art project stared from New Orleans, Louisiana which was her neighborhood. Candy Chang started this project when she lost some she loved. She created this project in an abandoned house on one side of the wall she made it into a chalk board and wrote the sentence "Before I Die, I want to......". This project will allow people to reflect on their lives and they will remember what is important to them and cherish it more. The project have spread all over different places and countries.

In my opinion, I think this project would be under Experimental and Discursive Design. This piece is communicating the idea and concept and providing the wall for people to write on and exploring the different thoughts that people had.

2. Airbnb - Design Studio

This project created a logo design called "Belo" which meaning belonging. This shows that travelers have a place that they belong too even if it is not in their own country. So that the travelers can feel at home instead of feeling like they are foreigners.

I think this is Commercial Design because the company uses this logo to for their business and they earn profit from this design. This logo can be recognise in multiple countries.

3. Umeda Hospital - Kenya Hara

This project is about washable signs, the concept is that "Cleanliness is the best service that a hospital can provide". The cleanness of a hospital can change the perspective that someone holds because hospitals should be clean because of the sickness that happens there. However, if a hospital is not clean they will see that they do not care for the people.

I think this is Responsible Design because the sign shows a very beautiful outcome that people would be attracted too. The concept of the sign is very simple and very necessary in the hospital.

4. Tactile Typography - Side by Side

Tactile Typography is where the designer uses different types of material to create a typography design. They try to explore and experiment with different types of material and would enjoy the process that goes with it

In my opinion I think this is under experimental design because it clearly shows that it focuses more on the process of the project instead of the final outcome. I can tell that they like using different materials to explore different outcomes of the typography.
