1. Some cultures emphasize light skin as a standard of beauty and being a certain weight. This is true for some Asian cultures such as Korea, Japan etc.

2. Each culture has their own ideals. I remember watching a documentary where some cultures prefer that the woman has a bigger body for the man. But I think the bigger question is who made these cultural ideals in the first place? Is it for the pleasure of men? Should Cultural beliefs on the body image even exist in this day and age?

5. I think that it depends for each person and how spiritual they are or how much they connect to their culture. For me, my upbringing has been a mix of different cultures which is also reflected through my perception of body image. I think it’s like this because of what you’ve been told as you were growing up as well as the media you’ve been consuming and the people you look up to

7. Different cultures and the inherent beliefs can impact the supposed ‘norm’ body, and if you don’t fit into that description, you may view your body as imperfect/wrong. Culture is one of the largest influencers on body image.

8. I believe that many cultural traditions also contribute to body image and can influence either negative or positive body image as well as self-esteem. 9. Depending on the culture and overall emphasis of traditions involved, a person may find their surroundings either conducive to or resistant to the building of a healthy body image and self-esteem.

11. The widespread Asian ideal that our skin should be fair has an impact on how society (mainly older generations) has a view on other people's view on beauty or view on status.

1. In this day and age, there's more emphasis on the effect social media has on your body image

1. that we should take care more of our body. it shows self-discipline

2. Maybe not mine, but I have seen how it has effected others close to me.

3. Being aware of your surroundings and understanding how culture and traditions may affect and impact how you think and feel about your body can be helpful, especially in a conscious effort to build a positive body image and increase self-esteem

4. The culture in the UK, be it through media or social interaction, has a set standard for what the Male body should look like. Though to a lesser extent than for women, there's still pressure to look a certain way.

personally for me i come from a family that is very diverse in race and culture so that has kept me away from having body image ideals

3. Because of the media experiences from other cultures don’t think that there’s a specific body image that has been influenced by my culture anymore - it’s all a mix of cultures and it depends on “what’s trending” at the moment

2. My parents think I am too thin based on seeing just my legs. In reality, this is how I normally look if I didn't eat rice everyday in my lunchbox for 5 days/week, 365 days. They think I am starving myself where as, I am not, I am actually happy about my legs and I don't feel unhealthy. My parents can't accept that my body doesn't look like how it used to be in secondary school.

3. Celebrities! Sometimes it’s hard to differentiate between real life and photoshop especially because of social media so I end up having these unrealistic expectations or body goals that just seem impossible to achieve
